place=province
is a subdivision of a country similar to a state. Some countries have provinces rather than states.
How to map
When the province boundaries are unknown, it's possible to represent a province as a node tagged with place=province
along with name=*
.
If the boundaries are known, a more common approach is to map provinces using a relation tagged as type=boundary
, boundary=administrative
, admin_level=*
, and border_type=province
.
When representing the province as a boundary relation, it is not recommended to use place=province
on the relation itself.
However, it can be included on a separate
node to indicate the placement of the province label.
label
Refer to:
- Relation:boundary#Relation_members for detailed instructions on creating boundary relations and label nodes.
- Tag:boundary=administrative#10_admin_level_values_for_specific_countries for the recommended values of the 'admin_level' tag.
