A gear pump uses the displacement of gear wheels inside a closed body to pump a fluid carried by the wheels from intake to discharge side. It's a very common kind of pump mechanism used in industry hydraulic systems or even in your own car.

These are different from rotary vane pumps as here wheels aren't designed to fit to the pump body. See pump_mechanism=rotary_vane for more information.
