Used where the surface consists of exposed earth/soil/dirt, and is not sand, gravel or rock.
This value is likely a synonym of surface=dirt, as "earth road" is the preferred term in different English-speaking regions for what is called a "dirt road". Some mappers may use various distinctions between surface=dirt and surface=earth, but no systematic difference is to be expected.
