They may be used mid-block to suggest that drivers slow down.

These may also delineate minor roads from collector roads (where they may be called "Threshold", "Gateway", or "Entry Statement" treatments). Typically, this also signifies crossing speed zones.

They may be simple markings, a coloured section, or a change in material (e.g. brick, concrete. cobblestone).
