Column shrine is most often in the shape of a column or pillar, sometimes covered by a small roof. It was meant to symbolize the pillar at which Jesus Christ was whipped.
How to map
- Tag a node
or draw the area
and add historic=wayside_shrine+wayside_shrine=column - Add
religion=christian
Picture on a column: wayside_shrine=picture or wayside_shrine=column?
- If the column merely serves as a support for the image (for example, a simple wooden post), then it should be tagged as
wayside_shrine=picture. - However, if the column itself has architectural, artistic, or heritage value and forms an integral part of the shrine, then
wayside_shrine=columnis more appropriate.
Useful combinations
inscription=*for text which is written on column shrinedescription=*for additional information about column shrinematerial=*the material from which column shrine are built (e.g.,material=wood,material=stone,material=brick...)
