Component Overview

Having not had anything to do with developing or designing OSM, I'm not the best person to do this, but I felt we were lacking some high level design documentation, so I've had a stab at a 'component overview'. As ever, feel free to edit it mercilessly.

Actually I'm not allowed to upload the SVG file for some reason, so you can't edit the diagram properly.

Layer used by osm.org

Hi there,

The diagram indactes that OpenLayers is used by the main OpenStreetMap website. However, I read that it is instead LeafLet, e.g. there http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Leaflet . It should maybe be updated. --IamSylve (talk) 23:05, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

Consistency between text and figure

Could some please make the terminology on the figure and the text match? For some central objects like "API" and "Mapnik" there is a correspondence, and I assume that "map editing software" and "Editors" match.

I stumbled when I tried to understand where "The Rails Port" is positioned in the architecture. It is mentioned in the text under "OSM Front End" - but what of the objects on the figure corresponds to that term? It's neither "openstreetmap.org website" nor "OSM standard tile server" or any subcomponent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Quärtz (talkcontribs) 21:09, 23 June 2022

I redrew the image, trimming off parts that are more loosely associated with OSM and not necessary. I hope that clarifies your question. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 15:36, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
