Anganwadi needs to be separated from kindergarten

Anganwadi functions in multiple ways.

See http://sjd.kerala.gov.in/scheme-info.php?scheme_id=IDQyc1Y4dXFSI3Z5 for example

  • supplementary nutrition
  • immunization
  • health check-up,
  • referral services,
  • pre-school non-formal education and
  • nutrition & health education.

Anganwadi also provides care to pregnant & lactating mothers, as well as to other vulnerable populations.

In all Anganwadi is not just a kindergarten.

It is a social facility in some ways. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Kathmandu_Living_Labs/Secondary_Cities_Indore#Anganwadi

It is important to tag Anganwadis in a way that allows us to recognize this cornerstone of Indian public health system as a separate and unique institution.

I see User:Indigomc asking for the same at https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=24859

Suggestion by Kathmandu makes sense, as Anganwadi is not just childcare, but also serves mothers as well as elders now.

amenity=social_facility
social_facility=anganwadi

would help to differentiate anganwadis well --Muzirian (talk) 07:10, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
