Animal-related facilities

@Duja: In this edit you changed "Sometimes animal related facilities are tagged like with animal=horse_walker and animal=school..." to "Some animal-related facilities used to be tagged like with animal=horse_walker and animal=school...". I think this is still the case, not only for amimal=horse_walker, but also for other tags listed on page Animals, e.g. animal=cemetery. So why did you change that? I mean, I wound't mind if we had better tags for these facilities, but as long as we don't have them, the Wiki page should describe how it is. No? --Hufkratzer (talk) 18:13, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

You are correct, my bad. I discovered only later that there's no other way to tag a horse walker (to my surprise -- it would be more consistent to use amenity=* or man_made=*), but forgot to get back and correct the sentence. Duja (talk) 19:42, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Specific building tags for certain animals

@Duja: In this edit you changed "(Note that for certain animals there is already specific building tag which is recommended if the building was designed for that specific use: e.g. building=stable, building=sty and building=cowshed)." to "(Note that for certain animals there is already a specific building tag which is recommended, e.g. building=stable, building=sty and building=cowshed)." I think, if e.g. a building was not designed for a specific kind of animals (e.g. for pigs) it is not be recommended to tag it with one of these specific building tags. E.g. if a building was not designed as a sty it should not be tagged with building=sty even if there are pigs in it (animal=pig). So why did you change this? --Hufkratzer (talk) 18:13, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Because I thought it was self-evident -- a sty is a building purpose-built for pigs. Why complicate? Duja (talk) 19:38, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
For a newbie, it is by no means self-evident that OSM distinguishes between building type and building use; I only realised this myself years after I did my first edits, because someone explained it to me [1]. --Hufkratzer (talk) 20:19, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
