how do you differentiate distinctions made for different years?

As you may well know, the distinctions are awarded out every (end of the) year, and establishments don't always retain their award distinctions, which is only technically applicable for the specific year it was awarded in.

What do you think of the following, as a way to record the distinction:

  award:michelin:bib_gourmand=2024;2025
  award:michelin:selected=2026

Above tag would be interpreted to mean as an establishment recognized by Michelin Guides as having been included in their guide book with a bib gourmand distinction in 2024 and 2025, and recognition as a "Michelin-selected" restaurant in 2026.

In Openstreetmap normally the current situation is mapped. So award:michelin=2 means that the restaurant currently has 2 Michelin stars (from the last award year). Former situations can be mapped by adding a suffix to the key. So for Michelin stars this may be award:michelin:2015-2023=2, 2 stars from 2015 till 2023. A67-A67 (talk) 20:04, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
