Pylon
A pylon is a tower supporting a suspension or cable-stayed bridge. As such it is documented in Wikipedia. The word "pylon" seems to be not that widespread, but it avoids the word "tower" which is too general and may lead to confusion. --Jojo4u (talk) 16:50, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
pier - how nonintermediate support looks like?
"intermediate, upright support beneath a bridge" - how word "intermediate" changes anything here? Is it intended to exclude abutments at ends of a bridge?
