Visible above the terrain?

Is the key used to specify the elevation of the part of a building's foundation, that is visible above the surrounding terrain? Or do you mean the total height from the bottom edge in the ground? I guess the first. --Chris2map (talk) 07:28, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

Needs better definition

This tag could be very useful for 3D mapping but it is a mess right now. It looks to be a result of inconsistent imports across Sri Lanka so there are a lot of values to represent a single class of height (some with spaces, some without, some with caps, some phrased differently). The table provided here lists 3-4 values per single foundation height class, none of which are actually used in practice. Also, the tag uses imperial units(!), going against every other OSM tag and seemingly Sri Lanka itself as it uses metric.
I'd advocate just tagging it the same way height is tagged, some sort of approximate values seem helpful for mappers who want to tag the presence of a foundation sticking out of the ground without getting out the ruler but they definitely can't be used in the present state --Blxght (talk) 23:13, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
