fire_hydrant:postition not actually approved?

This page links to https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposal:Fire_Hydrant_Extensions_(part_2), however the approved proposal does not actually change or formalize anything about the tag specifically. Therefore the link and status seems wrong. SereneDeluge (talk) 14:31, 30 September 2026 (UTC)

Definition & use of fire_hydrant:position=lane

The current description here is "The hydrant is on the side of a road lane." However, StreetComplete (and others?) use the value if the fire hydrant is anywhere on the roadway, such as in the middle of the road. (See https://github.com/streetcomplete/StreetComplete/pull/3368 and https://github.com/streetcomplete/StreetComplete/pull/3695) There's no other fitting value than lane for this usage, so I suggest updating the wiki page to broaden the description. (See other topic, it seems the value is not Approved, but de-facto / in-use, so such a change seems fine?) SereneDeluge (talk) 14:40, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
