More explicit value?

I feel that "toilet:wash=shower" will be mis-interpreted as "this toilet also has an amenity=shower available", as some toilets do. I know we like to be a bit euphimistic about topics like these, but `bidet_shower` is IMHO more explicit (and also what Wikipedia uses). ("bum gun" is also pretty funny though). Can we still change this? --Pietervdvn (talk) 14:35, 13 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

I agree; I just went along with adding that tag on the bidets I saw, as the linked Community Forum discussion was the closest thing this featureset could have to a proposal.
Nonetheless, since this is still just around a hundred uses or so, while I wouldn't be opposed to bidet_shower, I'd  Support more the value toilets:wash=bidet_spray, to align the guideline with the existing ATYL uses.
I've added this discussion onto that forum thread; let's hope we get some more responses, particularly from those involved in earlier discussions such as @Mishari, AkuAnakTimur, and Stephankn:. —UndueMarmot (talk) 02:29, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sure, bidet_spray is IMHO even better. There are currently 38 "shower" values; all of them in the Philipines. I'd say we just update them mechanically. --Pietervdvn (talk) 19:40, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Considering how niche this tag is, and the complete lack of feedback from anyone, I  took the liberty in changeset #180087632 (achavi, OSMLab, FacilMap) in replacing all 19 nodes, 18 ways and 1 relation of these from toilets:wash=shower to the more specific toilets:wash=bidet_spray.
I documented these on the wiki too (on both the bidet_spray and the shower pages).
Let's get this moving :) UndueMarmot (talk) 05:02, 19 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
