Should the value of this tag correspond to the associated place=* POI, or should it correspond to the place's official status? In the United States, most places with the official status "city" would be classified as place=town or even place=village in OSM. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 00:56, 28 October 2019 (UTC)

townhall:type=* doesn't really mean anything. It is subject to better key definition and naming. -- Kovposch (talk) 09:33, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
This tag can be used in France to distinguish "Mairie" (usually in villages) from "Hôtel de Ville" (in cities, town), townhall:type=annex could be used to tag annex to the main town hall, which can exist in cities/town. Cquest (talk) 18:23, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Yes, then it's already a different classification compared to village vs town. Should make it sub-tagging eg townhall:place=village and townhall:branch=annex. ---- Kovposch (talk) 06:21, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
