Documenting other types of turning circle

There are two additional turning circle types that stand out for me: the "y" type (which is a "hammer" type but where the vertices are not orthogonal to the incoming carriageway) and "key" or "side turn" type (which is essentially a "hammer" rotated by 90-deg). See here for diagrams. The "y" type seems to be in use in OSM, tagged as a "y-head" but it doesn't look like the key/side-turn is being used currently. Currently I use turning_circle=hammer + side=right for side-turn. turning_circle=knuckle includes both centered and side circle, so I thought turning_circle=hammer is the same. Kovposch (talk) 17:46, 29 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
