Talk:OSM-4D/Roof table
Idea: wouldn't it be easier to just have the roof type as "Flat" with H1, L1, L2, L3, L4 being optional?
side_half_hipped are missing
for roof with only one side half hipped. -Yod4z (talk) 19:28, 10 March 2016 (UTC) i made an image
> You're right. As there is variants (double, triple...) for saltboxes, round roofs(5.1-6), and of course for skillion (gambled and hipped are such variants for it), it should be the same for other types of roofs : mansards, half-hipped.... and maybe also pyramidal and cones (so it could be rendered like the upper part of the 6.3). On the contrary, more complex shapes (4.2.1, 4.4, 4.5, 6.0 to 7.4) can be easily mapped by combining several basic shapes......--Clementrouxosm (talk) 21:48, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
>> getting more complex shapes by combining boxes, wedges, pyramids, arcs and spheres as parts of a (building/non-building) structure. YEA, that's true CAD. but .. easy to say and hard to do. especially for the developers. --Googlenaut (talk) 10:00, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
what is the best for this type of roof ?

gabled with one side for roof only
like on https://www.mapillary.com/map/im/28no4c2pC6YzFMCNg38TMA how to tag the roof in front of the building?
> I think it can be easily cut into building:parts with either skillion or flat roof shapes (and also wall=no). --Clementrouxosm (talk) 11:13, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
side_half-hipped on a side and hipped on the other
see way 192385399 the house are half-hipped on side south and hipped on the north side -14:44, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
Flat roofs with chamfer
What is the firrerence between `quadruple_saltbox` and `flat_mansard`? These look functionally equivalent. Does the latter also cover cases where the sloped "edging" terminates above the level of the flat roof? --InsertUser (talk) 14:24, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
cross_gabled without cross?
I have seen a lot of galbed roof in gabled roof with different orientation. How to tag? do i need to creat part from all gabled? exemple the building part or the relation 2083460 -12:28, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
Concept too complex
This concept is much too complex and also can't handle all cases, e.g. I have a non-rectangular building shape with a roof mixed of half hipped and gabled. I would recommend abandoning the concept and replacing it with the much simpler roof:edge and roof:ridge, which is supported by Relation:building (and unfortunately I see it only implemented by OSM2World).--Sinuhe20 (talk) 08:59, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
I agree to Sinuhe, but disagree to ridges and edges. Same complexity could be done using just skillions. So, combine simple 3D primitves to create more complex scenery will be a better option, i think. --Googlenaut (talk) 10:37, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
