Is camp_pitch:surface necessary?

Rather than camp_pitch:surface, it would be possible to just use surface=* on the same node (or area). --Jeisenbe (talk) 02:20, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

camp_pitch:fire=no?

Should there be a value of "no" for camp_pitch:fire if open wood fires are not permitted, or is there a better tag that can be used for this? --Jeisenbe (talk) 02:20, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

namespacing or use standard tags?

I notice that there are some alternative tags listed at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag%3Atourism%3Dcamp_site which could be used instead, eg:

instead of camp_pitch:fire=ring/stove/no - bbq=yes or bbq=no and openfire=yes, openfire=no

drinking_water=* instead of camp_pitch:drinking_water=*

caravan=* and tent=* instead of camp_pitch:type=tent or =caravan

power_supply=* instead of camp_pitch:electric=*

surface=* instead of camp_pitch:surface=*

Basically the difference is namespacing. Should the keys be namespaced like camp_pitch:drain=yes, or just use drain=yes?

With the camp_pitch prefix it is clear that this is a feature that is associated with a single camp pitch, but this can also be found by looking at the other tags on the same feature.

Either way is fine by me; I just revived this proposal so we could discuss if it was a good idea. --Jeisenbe (talk) 08:05, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

Old Comments (2015)

1) Why the need for camp_site=camp_pitch ? Why not: camp_pitch=ref;addr;type;parking;table;stove;surface;electric;water;drain where if the item is listed 'yes' is default.

2) Grass pitches may move - to allow grass to recover from being camped on.

3) It should be clear that the part after "camp_pitch" should not just be made up. Those are OSM tags mentioned elsewhere. Brycenesbitt (talk) 23:26, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
