name_direction_prefix

What is the meaning of tiger:name_direction_prefix tag? https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/TIGER_to_OSM_Attribute_Map#Feature_Name is not clear for me why it was added. Is it just repeated first word of name tag as long as it is a geographic direction ( https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/tiger%3Aname_direction_prefix#values )? Perhaps this tag was added in the hope that it would be useful (it appears that it is not). Something B (talk) 13:18, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
