Any thoughts to an icon? What about a green parking symbol? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trevski (talkcontribs) 29 September 2007

Discussion / Voting before 2007.11.04

I support this proposal. --SlowRider 00:35, 30 April 2007 (BST)
Actually I already did some tagging for stations of our local Carsharing Organisation while mapping in my Area. The tag I have been using was carsharing=Stadtmobil. Probably an URL to the Homepage of the Organisation should be added as well (Giggls Mon, 30 Apr 2007 12:17:50 +0200).

I suggest the proposed "network" tag to describe a cooperating system of carsharing stations. --Hawke 22:28, 11 June 2007 (BST)

After recent discussion on mailing list, I propose following structure:

  • amenity=carsharing
  • operator="Name of Operator" (e.g. "StreetCar", "Zipcar")
  • number=3 (for multiple cars at one location)

--Petz 11:48, 9 October 2007 (BST)

Shouldn't it be amenity=car_sharing to fit with the OSM convention for multiple word values? TomChance 12:17, 9 October 2007 (BST)
  • Instead of number I'd prefer capacity, which is already used for parkinglots. number could be mistaken as some kind of ID for that special place, assigned by the operator.
  • Such a number or ID which identifies this station within the operator's network would well fit in ref="123"

I also propose, due to great mutuality, to use amenity=bikesharing under the same conditions.
--Fröstel 12:01, 9 October 2007 (BST) Is there a need for a separate proposal page for bikesharing, or do we consider it as a variation of this proposal ? --Petz 16:24, 9 October 2007 (BST)

So can we agree on the following schema:

  • amenity=car_sharing
  • operator="Name of Operator" (e.g. "StreetCar", "Zipcar")
  • capacity="number of cars" (for multiple cars at one location)

--Petz 16:24, 9 October 2007 (BST)

Looks good to me -- TomChance 12:52, 10 October 2007 (BST)

Icon

The Icon should be simliar to the proposed car_rental icon (A car symbol with a key), but with a "group of people" instead of the key

Comments

  • The former proposal was changed several times, so there wasn't a clear proposal/voting at all - I've moved the former discussion / voting to the discussion page and cleaned up this page. Unless there's no doubt about the last proposed tagset (which you can find above), we might just "re-vote" shortly.

Voting

  • Approval. Though I wonder if carsharing isn´t just some special kind of car_rental (carsharing is by definition a closed community, often with a fee on yearly basis, whereas car_rental is generally open to anyone). The Icon should be simliar to the proposed car_rental icon (A car symbol with a key), but with a "group of people" instead of the key? motp
  • I support this proposal. Being a member of a car sharing organisation, I'd not treat it the same as car rentals. I like the idea for the icon being the same as car rentals except exchanging the key by a couple of people --SlowRider 21:14, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • I approve this proposal -- hobbsch 21:16, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Mapping location names/codes

What would be the preferred way to map specific location names/codes of car share spots? This should he added to the wiki. Coehill (talk) 04:56, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think this should depend on how they are identified by the operator - eg CoWheels lists locations by name (usually of the adjacent street), and that's what I'd put in the name. --Tohaklim (talk) 21:00, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
