One feature, one OSM element

This wiki suggests to add the place=* tag also on the boundary. But this tag is already used on the node label. This way we have the tag repeated on both the boundary and the node. I don't think is correct to suggest adding it to the relation, since the relation is about the boundaries, and only the node about the place --Ivanbranco (talk) 13:15, 28 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

It's quite common to have tags repeated on boundary relations and label nodes. In this case there are two features that both need an element: the boundary of the place, represented by the boundary relation, and a central spot in the place, represented by the 'place node'. Although common, it's not something everyone likes, and it seems that not everyone adds the place on the boundary area, even in the examples linked in the place=* page: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/1MV3 - For example see r8398119 and n158801321 and note the relation does not have a place=*. I think the Wiki should document both practices and state that the place is optional on the relation.
