Talk:Tag:cycleway=sidewalk

I guess the documentation is wrong and it is not clear what is meant.

cycleway=sidewalk mostly appears together with highway=cycleway. So it does not indicate that there is a separate cycleway on the sidewalk It may indicate that is is a sidepath or that the cycleway is shared with pedestrians.

I would prefer to discourage this tagging.

Maybe we could write this: This tagging is not documented and may have different meanings: If it indicates that a cycleway is next to a road then use is_sidepath=yes or (cycleway=sidepath) instead. If it indicates that the cycleway is shared with pedestrian then use foot=designated* + bicycle=designated* (* or other access values) --Langläufer (talk) 11:59, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
