How would one tag which type of newspaper is sold in a given machine? It seems to me operator=* would generally represent the manager of box while the actual Newspaper (e.g., NY Times, USA Today, etc.) should be tagged separately. The key newspaper=* makes the most logical sense to me. -Osmedit 2023-07-29 20:08

Don't use it for freeform text. It looks like seliing newspapers=sports , newspapers=finance to me. Why not brand=* ?
Also, apparently magazines and pamphlets are described to be included for some reason.

The majority for the singular (unlike plural vending=newspapers ) is newspaper=yes on other features, seems whether it is selling newspaper. Although there is the likelihood of whether it provides newspapers for customers to read, as many are on amenity=cafe . Not familiar with the European market.
1222 vending=newspapers + brand=* already. —— Kovposch (talk) 08:15, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
Another possiblity is to use vending=newspapers + sells:newspapers=La Dépêche as per: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposal:Sells:#Values_example:_newspapers
I opened a similar discussion about the trailing "s" and I think should be removed from both tags too. Francians (talk) 05:08, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
That proposal is kind of abandoned (check its discussion Proposal_talk:Sells: ), and for the "selling" meaning the community is converging in the use of *:retail or service:*:retail (see the approved service:bicycle:* and the discussion at Proposal_talk:Power_Bank_Rental#*:rental_versus_rental:* )

Are you suggesting to use vending=newspapers + newspaper:retail=La Dépêche? If retail suffix is preferred, why isn't documented at all? --Francians (talk) 17:15, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
