The page needs doing "from scratch"

With almost a year since the last edit and most edits before that only after a month after the earth quake it seems clear that this page needs total make-over if it is to be used for any coordination of tasks / ideas sharing. I'll start with things from the top of my mind and hope that this evolves into something useful. _Please_ contribute whatever you feel makes sense. --JaakkoH 21:58, 22 May 2011 (BST)

Cemetery identification: engagement of MyRelate genealogical wiki

I have created a page on the MyRelate wiki asking for input in identification of Haitian cemeteries; cemeteries are treated as places in the MyRelate model. See http://www.werelate.org/wiki/Cemeteries_of_Haiti . I would encourage people to add cemeteries to this list. --Ceyockey 02:00, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

  • basic function did i have and i can generate the list daily - but did you know a possiblity to auto-upload in the osm-wiki. alternative i create a side with a link ! --Jan Tappenbeck 21:25, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
There are several ways to upload automatically. First, Mediawiki has an API which can be used from programs. Second, you could mimic the behaviour of a browser and upload a page the same way a browser would. Automatic upload doesn't have high priority in my opinion. A link to the exctracted list of cemeteries is fine for me. Gubaer 10:22, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Looks good ! Gubaer 10:22, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
There is a large cemetery in Jacmel which doesn't show up in the map. Why? Gubaer 10:34, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
I use in time a tool with restrict selection. my newone did have a mistake in class and i hope for help in next feature by the programmer - then nodes and way will be show ! SORRY ! but thanks for controlling. --Jan Tappenbeck 10:52, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
No problem. Just wanted to let you know. I'm looking forward to results of the next iteration. Gubaer 15:29, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Utility of MyRelate page

The use of this page may not be efficient for OSM, but it does accomodate the need to avoid OSM being the host for ALL information about ALL points-of-interest. Let us focus on the critical path of place identification and localization and let other resources handle the more detailed matters. --Ceyockey 16:19, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Sure. We can feed your list with data which is already in the OSM database because people have been tracing over sattelite imagery. My concern is only, that it isn't efficient to propagate this data manually to your list. For instance, we shouldn't copy/paste lat/lon-coordinates of already mapped cemetries into your wiki. Rather, we should extract it with a script and provide it for you such that you can use it in whatever way you want (if you want to use it all, of course, just ignore it if it isn't of value for you). That's good, to work from an OSM extract rather than what I've been doing, which is manual pulls when I run across something. The main point of the MyRelate page is follow-through over the months and years to follow ... there was 0 in MyRelate on Haiti prior to this and if we can port content from OSM to MyRelate in a semi-automated fashion, that's just another positive by-product of the whole OSM Humanitarian activity. Thanks. --Ceyockey 18:36, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

MSF Tent Hospital Unit - can the location be discerned?

There is a set of photos at http://www.boingboing.net/2010/01/21/haiti-msfs-plug-and.html#more which might be helpful in identifying the location of an MSF facility in Port-au-Prince. They say it is located in a football (presume 'soccer') field near one of their four facilities in the city. Maybe this has already been mapped ... --Ceyockey 17:10, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
