The Fairer Falkirk OSM Project

This page describes an OSM mapping project which will be used as part of Falkirk Council’s ‘Towards a Fairer Falkirk’ project. This project is concerned with reducing the inequalities between the wealthiest and poorest in the community. More details can be found here: http://www.falkirk.gov.uk/services/people-communities/poverty-strategy.aspx

What are we trying to map?

The mapping aspect of Fairer Falkirk project aims to map community services in a number of data themes. These themes relate to free local services that are available to the community.

We are intending to use as many existing tags as we can, and possible extending the project to use new tags if needed. We are trying to be as conservative as possible and introduce tags only when there is a defined data gap.

Digital Access Theme

This theme defines the features and community services that enable free digital access / connectivity access to the public. This may not necessarily be concerned with internet access, we also want to describe how the community can access a range of a range of activities – e.g. ability to print and access to computers.

For this theme, we are interested in the following:

Services of interest

Our theme is interested in the following services:

  • Wi-Fi / Internet access
  • Printing facilities
  • Computer terminals provided
Feature attributes of interest
  • Service restrictions
  • Is membership required for access to services?
  • Is the service free?
  • Accessibility – Is there wheelchair / mobility access

Food Provision

This theme describes the food bank / soup kitchens and other community services that provide access to free food. We are initially concentrating on food banks but may in the future include other services, e.g. breakfast clubs and school holiday activities where meals are provided.

Community Help & Advice

Features that provide community advice / citizens advice.

Council Help & Advice

Council offices providing community help & advice.
