Hello there! I contentedly map under the username WarpathPeacock. I speak English and Português.

About Me

Hello, my name is Logan McGovern and I’ve contributed to the OSM project since early 2019, both in my free time and professionally. I’m from the United States. OSM has been a blessing! This initiative has provided me with opportunity to meet incredible people all over the world, including my partner from São Paulo. For this, I am very grateful and owe much to OSM. This coming December 2022 we will be in Sao Paulo, spending time with her family there. At this stage in my career, I have contributed approximately 910,000 edits to the map. I hope to reach 1,000,000 edits by the end of the year!

My Username

The story that inspired my username: In 2019, I was participating in a street name survey for Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia. We were traversing the city, collecting information from signs and uploading the data to OSM. We had a day off for ourselves, and for a fun activity my coworkers and I visited the KL Bird Park. There, I came across a very angry peacock who decided to chase me without provocation. I managed to get away from the bird and many funny jokes were had at my expense. This event is a bit of a legend at the Kaart Colorado office.

Moderation Team and Volunteer OpenStreetMap Work

I am a member of the moderation team for the OSMF and OSM talk mailing lists. Please note that I have officially recused myself from all moderation duties for the course of this election. This has been officially recorded in the moderation team minutes. It is my distinct pleasure to be working with the other members of this group and I always enjoy our monthly meetings.

When I can, I volunteer time to various HOT initiatives when possible, almost always under the intelligent direction of Russel Deffner, who is married to the incomparable Arnalie, another fantastic candidate for the 2022 board elections. It was quite fun meeting them in person when they visited my hometown of Grand Junction, Colorado this past year in 2021.

Kaart

I am a geographer with the Kaart editing team. Please take note, my candidacy for the OSMF board is not on behalf of my company nor did they make any request for me to run. My motives for running are NOT related in any way to my professional aspirations with regards to my employer. I simply love OSM.

I have worked for Kaart for nearly four years. It was when when I applied to Kaart that I discovered OpenStreetMap. I have been in various positions for them since, including in the capacity of assistant manager. As an assistant manager, I helped oversee the operations of a team of approximately twenty-five editors. We focused on ensuring the integrity of road network data for various countries.

I particularly like my current job, because it allows me to work alongside our international editors, who are from all regions of the world.

Currently my job has three main general duties:

  • Creation of training materials for the addition of various missing data objects to OSM
  • Review of contributed data objects to the OSM database by our international mappers
  • Recording outcomes of data projects and training initiatives for members of our international team

Edits

While the majority of my edits are not for Brasil, the country has a special place in my heart for reasons mentioned above. You will also see my username very frequently in Mexico and Colombia. I was involved in a past project that added way data for both countries, but with a special emphasis on Mexico. Greece and Cyprus are two countries that I particularly enjoy mapping for. I enjoy mapping anywhere really.

Ground Survey Locations

In my time with Kaart, I have had the privilege of participating in ground surveys for the following locations across the world:

Brasil - Belém, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Itajaí, Joinville, Vila Velha

Colombia - Santiago de Cali

Malaysia - Johor, Kuala Lumpur

Phillipines - Manila, Angeles City
