Tag pages with redirect and templates

Hi, just FYI, there is a reason why some pages with redirect also contain a Key/ValueDescription template. The redirect can lead the user to the proper page while the template is read by TagInfo, the iD editor and other tools. Usually keys should have their own page, but I think tags like this: Pt:Tag:noexit=no are okay as redirects. Cheers --Jgpacker (talk) 16:11, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
Ok for tools to read the Description box, but I'm afraid I don't agree with you for the redirection. To be more precise: as long as the tag is present in the database, I think it should have its own page, with the mention "Please use that other tag instead". That in order for people not to think "it's a synonym, so I can use both of them" but instead "there is a better way than this tag, I should use that tag instead". I think that direct redirections are a reason why those tags are still present...
After tag has disappeared from the database, then I see no problem at redirecting its doc ;)

If the resulting page already talks about how that tag isn't used or is deprecated, then the redirect shouldn't be removed. This is the case of noexit=no (although currently it's implicit rather than explicit). I think that if the tag doesn't exist in the database, then the page shouldn't exist at all. --Jgpacker (talk) 13:40, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

At this moment only local forum in German is linked - and this feature is used worldwide (see http://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/railway=preserved#map) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:14, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
