Thanks for the note on my diary post.

The only thing I'd change here is the "generator:place". We started with this, but soon it became obvious it was totally redundant on individually mapped panels as one feature one element as location on it's own ***must*** apply to the panel. Also "generator:place" is a poorly named tag as "place" in OSM usually refers to geographical localities, we also used generator:location but moved over to location for everything after a while once we realised no information is lost. One oddity is that because generator:place=roof was the tag, this was carried over into location which before favoured rooftop.

That being said, the older tags provide exactly the same info. Similarly we started with "generator:orientation" until I came across someone using direction in iD which instantly offered visual feedback. In general I've tagged orientation/direction on the panel because we have often not mapped the building underneath & certainly not with S3DB for roofs. I now realise that panel size and module count can provide an guide to calculating roof pitches! We have been mapping panels at a large scale so have sought tags which work effectively with a workflow where hundreds of panels might be mapped in a day. For the same reason most of our panels are mapped as nodes, I tend to only move larger panels (30-40 modules & up) and ground installed panles over to areas. However, if I am doing a few at a time I'll do them as areas. SK53 (talk) 17:11, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
