I notice that you say that you jot down road names. Why not take a digital camera along to photograph them instead? You can sync the timestamp on the photos to the time recorded in your GPX file. You can load the photos to appear in their corresponding positions in JOSM. If you're worried about determining which side of the road each photo was taken on, why not use a simple rule like everything on the left is taken landscape and everything on the right is portrait? --Gregoryw 07:48, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
