Automated edits/Maine private driveways

From OpenStreetMap Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

I just emailed with Amazon, and they said they will soon (at the end of the week) stop putting access=private on all driveways in reaction to feedback. I'm considering a mechanical edit to change every element which is:

  • Way
  • In Maine, USA
  • Version 1
  • Edited by an Amazon User
  • service=driveway
  • access=private
  • Ignore any way which has any node which has a barrier=* tag.

I plan to remove the access tag, and add ownership=private.

This will occur on or after August 15th 2020.

This will be arranged by user blackboxlogic, the change will be made by blackboxlogic+bot.

Purpose:

I'd like to reinforce access=private as appropriate only when there is signage or a fence, and want to remove the bad examples which could serve as examples for future mappers.

Feedback:

  • Preferred: This wiki's talk page
  • The #Local-Maine channel in slack
  • The talk-us-maine@openstreetmap.org mailing list
  • Messages to my osm account

Updates:

blackboxlogic has asked aweech to take over this project and carry it through to completion. The script used will be similar to the one used in the same project for New Hampshire, and the edit will be carried out in mid-February 2021 by user aweech+bot.
