Your project

This is an opportunity for you to tell us about your project. In this section we'd like to hear about your community, which local challenge your project addresses, what you plan to do and how, your sustainability plan, and how you plan to share your stories.

Describe the local challenge your project is addressing

In this section please describe in detail the challenge that your project addresses. We recommend your response be a minimum of 200 words and a maximum of 400 words.

Most of health center facilities are not easy to access in our community due to poor road conditions, distance travel to reach Health center and Health center facilities available are centralized and many people cannot differentiate between their functionalities i.e. dispensaries, pharmacy, Clinics and Hospitals which lead to many pregnant women to deliver either at home or at their way to health center, overcrowding of patients at one health center facility which un enable them to get timely treatment, and this affect their community economically and many health center are not well mapped and identified in Open Street map by doing this will be able to Map all Health center available in Serengeti, and also many health center facilities are centralized, which lead to many part of Serengeti to lack health center due to poor planning and many lives of people who are not in town to be at risk because they cannot get the health services , By mapping all health center facilities available and differentiate their functionalities it can address our community problems and lead to good future planning for suitable places to put a health center facilities. This will lead to saving the lives of children, pregnant women and other community members around Serengeti.

Describe your project

In this section, please provide specific details about your mapping objectives. This should include: how you will contribute to help solve the local challenge you are addressing, what you aim to achieve with funding, what volume of mapping you plan to complete and how, and the number individuals are you aiming to include in mapping activities. We recommend your response be a minimum of 200 words and a maximum of 400 words.

My project will involve local youth mapper SETCO Youth mappers in Serengeti and will recruit community women to help in mapping all Health center available in their community and I believe they will be helpful because of the experiences of using those Health center facilities and girls at the Safe House will also be involved in learning how to map and collect data by using Open data Kit tools.

I will train Local Youth Mappers chapter and Girls and Women on how to map by using Map.me, ID editor and JOSM, also train them how to use Open Data Kit to collect information in the field, train them how to check data accuracy (validation of data after mapping) and how to upload data into Healthsites.io all the mapped data and benefit of Open data and mapping their communities.

The funding will help in buying material necessary for running a project and helping us travel to the villages for data collections, material required are Computers, Smartphones, Internet and transportation for Data collection.

We will have a team of 25 people, and we will form a group of 5 with each to have 5 people, I will train them on mapping and data collection then we will collect data and map in 30 villages around Serengeti. For 6 days.

1st three week will be for training them on how to map by using Maps.me and How to prepare q questionnaires on Kobo toolbox and how to link it with android smartphone and using it on the smartphone to collect information.

2nd Month of the project will train a community in two week on how to map by using ID editor.

3rd Month Five weeks for mapping by using JOSM.

4th Month four weeks training community members on how to upload the data collected into Healthsites.io

5th Month of a project, two weeks training community members on how to validate data by using JOSM and two weeks of collecting data. We will do a dry test for collecting data in nearby areas to be sure if they are able to do so, and then 6 days for collecting Health center data in 30 villages.

The 6th Month of a project will collect the findings and write the report and present the finding to community members and also discuss with the community on how to use the data and understanding the challenges that the local facilities are facing, when the data are available this will impact them in a positive ways like making decision on where they can get quickly services depend on the patients requirements, they would know the location of their health centers facilities .

Describe your sustainability plan

In this section please describe how your activities will continue post-funding. If you are applying for funding to purchase equipment, explain who will store/use the equipment you purchase, and if you have long term sustainability plans for your community's development. The partnership we are looking forward to making with the Regional health facilities office and Mara Red cross on providing the data for Health centers facilities and the services that they provide with things that they are missing so that they can use for future planning.

The Data will be used by Hope Safe House to where should they take a girls who are rescued from FGM to receive a treatment, how far is that Health center and what kind of services do they provide and Mara Red cross will use the data for making decision on the vulnerable area and how can they help.

Also women will benefit from this data, we can provide a map of all Health centers available at their Village at their Ward offices which will give the information of services provided and where they should go when they want a certain service which is not available at nearby Health Center.
