fid is a key which may appear in the OpenStreetMap database as a result of imported features from geospatial files which contained this field. A field named fid is often to assign a unique identifier to each feature within a geospatial file, and some formats, such as GeoPackages, require it. This tag can be treated as discardable, as OSM uses its own internal identifiers for features, and the presence of fid on an object is likely the result of a contributor unknowingly retaining it after incorporating data from another source.
