A more common way to mark a future name is name=* can be used, if the future date where the new name will become the current name is known — e.g., name:2026-06-01- (note the final dash marking the date as 'effective from'). |
This key is for a name that is planned or scheduled to be the feature's name in the future. Only use this key when there is a high degree of confidence that the value will become the name=* in the future.
All language suffix tags as described on the name=* article are also valid for future_name=*.
Typically, once the future date arrives, name=* will become old_name=* and future_name=* will become name=*. See the old_name=* page for additional guidelines on when using this tag is appropriate.
