Main article: Names

planned:name=* is sometimes used for a name that is planned or scheduled to be the feature's name in the future. Only use this key when there is a high degree of confidence that the value will become the name=* in the future.

Typically, once the future date arrives, name will become old_name and planned:name will become name. See the old_name=* page for additional guidelines on when using similar tags is appropriate.

The tagging follows the lifecycle scheme, using the prefix planned:*=*. This indicates that the status of the name will change in future. This lifecycle tagging is different from our established tagging of previous names with old_name=*, which is a historic fact that does not change anymore.
