The GTFS stop id is used to identify public transport stations. It is a international designed identifier which is used to reference a public_transport=stop_position, a public_transport=platform and the public_transport=stop_area clearly. It can be used by search engine to identify the station or platform.
It is used in the GTFS data in several files
Similar tag
At least in Europe stop_id is often identical to ref:IFOPT=*. In this situation, the well established ref:IFOPT=* is the preferred alternative.
