Key:not:brand

not:brand=* is a compound key consisting of not:*=*, the namespace for tags or features that are incorrect but likely to be re-added incorrectly, and brand=*.

Sometimes a feature has a name which is similar to that of well-known brands. When mappers keep adding the wrong brand=* information, not:brand=* can be added to signal to other mappers and QA-tools that the value(s) in that tag are not correct values for brand=*.

Fictional example

  • amenity=fast_food
  • not:brand=McDonald's: look out: this is not part of that famous franchise of fast-food restaurants!
  • name=Ol' McDonald's Haggis: name of the place.
  • loc_name=McDonald's: local folk just call it this.

Possible tagging mistakes

  • not:brand=yes ‒ Should not be used unless "yes" is commonly mistaken for the name of this feature's brand. Consider using nobrand=yes instead.
If you know places with this tag, verify if it could be tagged with another tag.
