In France, ref:FR:SIRET is an external reference, a tag assigned by the INSEE government administration to identify companies' places of business.
This tag is used by all French administrations but more importantly it is associated with other information such as the address, NAF code which identifies the type of activity, and the resulting database is published as open-data. This makes it possible to:
- Identify missing shops, restaurants and businesses in OpenStreetMap.
- Identify places that have gone out of business.
- Verify the consistency between the NAF code and OpenStreetMap's amenity, shop or craft tags.
This tag is compatible with the tag2link plugin and is used by Osmose and Complète Tes Commerces.
