Lokjo
Lokjo is a European and non-profit online-map (it's not a software) where you can find local shops and places by using categorical searches. (f.e. Clothing shops, dry cleaning, opticians, fast food etc.)
It was created in december 2017 and had the name 'thebigplan.is', which later got replaced by 'Lokjo' for marketing reasons. The website is build and maintained by a dutch artist, currently living in Berlin.
The idea behind the project is to support local shops by searching categories and then showing all related locations at once, regardless of zoom-level, to give everybody a fair place without the competition of corporations. Equally important is to support people to go off the internet for shopping again, therefor supporting freelancers and local sellers, who tend to give quality products for a fair price, and supporting the local/european economy again.
The map is build nearly completely with european servers & services. It is currently build with Leaflet and Geoapify services and (the only non-eu service) Mapbox routing. The last one will be replaced for a EU service asap. It was initially also used for satellite tiles, but got turned off to save costs after a few spikes from viral moments and concluding it has nearly no real usage for the service itself.
