This page is to describe the railroad lines in Missouri and document their mapping progress in OSM. Data and updates have been added slowly, though over time, these lines are being improved. If you have any information or updates about the lines listed, feel free to contribute to the tables.
Due to recent wiki and associated software upgrades, map details are not-quite-correct. One-click fix: hover over the map's upper-right "layers stack" icon and click the "Transport Map" button to see Missouri's rail infrastructure; zoom in to see smaller tracks and stations. As this is a "live" slippy map, it can be panned and zoomed.
Amtrak operates many passenger=regional (medium-distance: often interstate, sometimes intrastate), some highspeed=yes or "higher-speed" trains as well as all passenger=national (long distance, interstate), overnight and passenger=international trains. All Amtrak trains serving Missouri are in this table. Please correct any errors and/or update, if required.
Complete; public_transport v2. 284 miles (457 km), a "higher-speed" corridor and service, contrasted with Acela, Amtrak's highest speed service. Tracks near St. Louis estimated. Part of "Illinois Service." Trains 318 and 319 are a combination of the Lincoln Service and Missouri River Runner. Serving Saint Louis (and across Illinois to Chicago).
Complete; public_transport v2. 283 miles (455 km). Underlying infrastructure (route=railway) relations need fixing. Trains 318 and 319 (listed under Lincoln Service) are a combination of the Lincoln Service and Missouri River Runner. Serving Saint Louis Gateway Station, Kirkwood, Washington, Hermann, Jefferson City, Sedalia, Warrensburg, Lee's Summit, Independence and Kansas City.
Complete; public_transport v2. 2728 miles (Chicago - San Antonio - Los Angeles). At San Antonio, train 421 decouples from train 21 to couple with train 1 westbound and train 422 decouples from train 2 to couple with train 22 eastbound. Tracks around Saint Louis are estimated. Serving Saint Louis, Arcadia Valley and Poplar Bluff.
Kansas City Streetcar
As of January 29, 2026, the original portion of the streetcar and the Main Street extension (opened October 24, 2025) are both fully mapped. The Riverfront Extension, north along Grand, has the tracks mapped, but not the stations (this segment opens some time in "early 2026").
Projects/To Do List
The following is a list of projects that need completion in relation to the mapping and tagging of railroad lines in Missouri.
Adding routes to tables above with appropriate information.
When adding lines that cross the state line, make sure you list the state the line ends in.
Some relation sections are currently filled with "Relation not defined yet". This either means that the relation does not exist, or the relation ID simply has not been looked up and entered into this wiki.
Adding tags and relations to routes missing those data, as shown by above tables.
Renaming track segments (individual railway=rail elements) to reflect actual subdivision names, without being prefixed by the name of the railroad company. Use operator=* and/or owner=* tags to convey these data, not the name=* tag (that is considered "tagging for the renderer," a no-no in OSM).
