Apple contributes to OpenStreetMap's coverage of a number of countries. Apple's main repository for information about our projects is the Apple Data Github repo. The data team works on the projects, which are also listed below. Apple was added to the list of organised editing activities as well.
Map data contributions
Apple created the Atlas tool for analyzing OpenStreetMap data. For example, Atlas Checks can be used to find potential OSM data issues, such as to create MapRoulette challenges.
Apple has created a number of MapRoulette challenges for various countries using Atlas, mostly related to road network issues.
Apple published a JOSM paint style to help with visibility of the highway network, data validation, and easier editing of nodes and ways.
We also released building footprint and height data for some countries.
Map editing projects
In all cases, we have reached out to the local community to get feedback and suggestions for the project. This is done through the local talk list, the OSM forum for that country, a local forum (such as a Telegram group or Facebook page), or if those don’t exist, local active mappers. For full details for each project, please visit the links.
The team uses the hashtag #adt (for Apple Data Team) for our edits.
The projects are sorted by type, for easier access.
