Proposal

With the emergence of detailed indoor mapping activities such as the indoor navigation project proposed by DYNAMIK, a nessecity to categorize different indoor objects emerges. This proposal wants to establish the tagging amenity=glass_cabinet to tag big glass boxes, mostly made to showcase some kind of object while restricting the viewer's ability to directly interact with it. Those objects mostly exist in indoor settings.

The tag is intended to be used on nodes, if the glass cabinet is relatively small, and on ways or areas if the class cabinet is so big that is has some kind of room-dividing capacity.

Rationale

There is currently no established tagging that fits the need to identify glass_cabinets in indoor-settings. indoor=glass_cabinet is used some times already.

Why not barrier=*?

We do not want to establish barrier=glass_cabinet because we think objects should only be tagged with barrier=* when theese objects were made to be barriers. (e.g. barrier=bollard, barrier=hedge etc.) A glass cabinet's primary purpose is to showcase something, not to stand in the way (of navigation).

Why not indoor=*?

We do not want to establish the use of the formerly introduced indoor=glass_cabinet to keep in line with previously used tagging for some indoor furniture. amenity=table and amenity=chair also use the amenity=*-Tagspace. Also, some urban community-spaces may make it difficult to sperate between indoor and outdoor use. In theory, nothing stops a chair, a table, or indeed a glass cabinet to exist in an outdoor space.

Rendering

Normal outdoor maps should not render this tagging. Indoor-maps may opt to display this feature if used on an area in the same way they would a wall or other kind of barrier.
