Proposal

Currently, queues are often mapped with descriptive names. Like "Fast Pass lane", "Priority queue", etc. There is no clear way to designate a footway as a queue, nevermind the type of queue.

This new tagging scheme can be used broadly; not only in theme parks, but other attractions too - anywhere a line of humans waits.

Rationale

The tag highway=footway was chosen with its existing subkey, footway=* to specify the type of footway. This is because a lot of queues are already mapped as footways. This is also in line with other footway=* tags, such as footway=sidewalk, footway=crossing, etc.

The tag queue=footway already has some use - 45 at time of writing. However, using the footway=* key makes more sense.

Tagging

A queue should be tagged with;

highway=footway
footway=queue
queue=* - possible values regular, single, priority or virtual. Its absence implies regular.
Any other footway-related tags, like surface=*

The queue key

The queue=* key is used to describe what kind of queue it is.

Values for queue=*
Value	Description	Image
regular	A 'regular' entrance queue.
single	A queue for people who are alone, not in a group. Often called 'Single Rider' queues.
priority	A queue for people with priority. Think about priority bookings, but also 'Fast Passes', 'Fast Lane', etc. in theme parks.
virtual	A virtual queue. Guests sign up to wait digitally, and are then called to the queue when it's their turn to go. See this Wikipedia article for more information.
disabled	A queue for disabled or otherwise differently-abled people
