Difference between car wash and bike wash

Resolved: Reference added
amenity=car_wash should be used for facilities primarily intended for motor vehicles, even if they incidentally accommodate bicycles.

Even if not dedicated to wash bicycles, some car wash stations are useful to wash bicycles. I suggest that the proposal indicate how to tag this case (amenity=car_wash + bicycle_wash=yes/no ?) R2d (talk)

As long as we are not talking about automatic car washes with conveyor belts, any self-service car wash is also suitable for bicycles - or why not? From my point of view, a bicycle=yes for a self-service car wash and a bicycle=no for automatic car washes would be a troll tag, wouldn't it?
In my opinion, the difference to dedicated bike wash systems lies in the following differences:
1. no motor vehicles are possible, either by accessibility or space or disallowance
2. a self-service car wash costs money. A self-service bike wash costs nothing.
3. an oil separator for waste water is mandatory (at least in the EU) for car washes. Not for bike washes.

I have added the reference example to the existing wiki page. Makes that sense? Mcliquid (talk) 19:28, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
