Data Release Requests and Advocacy
Is it referring to some specific issue? If yes - I would invite you to contact OSMF board with details (and text that you tried to send already).
If it something reasonable (not attempt to openly license Google Maps data or writing to Taliban representatives etc) then I would be happy to send it as OSMF (after consulting with other board members)

In fact, I didn't have a specific thing in mind when I was formulating it. In Austria we are blessed to have Open Government Data and the explicit permission for most datasets. However, the situation in Southern Germany appears to be challenging, and Eastern Switzerland has substantial open data but under the CC BY 4.0 license. As a non-legal expert, I wonder if the conflicts arising from these two licenses can be reconciled. Alternatively, would it be advantageous to collate a catalog of 'potential datasets,' which could be collectively advocated for by the OSMF to address these licensing issues? Here's a table (sorry, only german) about the situation in germany: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/DE:Luftbilder#%C3%9Cbersicht_Bundesl%C3%A4nder Or this one: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/DE:Potential_Datasources Mcliquid (talk) 20:32, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
- "As a non-legal expert, I wonder if the conflicts arising from these two licenses can be reconciled." it is typically done via obtaining waivers. Note that in EU there is some legislation that is improving situation with gov data (as I understand, it is in force already and next provision are going into force relatively soon, obligating data releases under very permissive licences). For OSMF taking action: if sending some letter as OSMF would help, then best way to achieve it is to write it and ask to send OSMF to send it. Maybe initially ask whether it would be a good idea? (this stuff takes quite a lot of time - currently I am working on insufficient attribution things and main limit is lack of time to spend on it). Obviously electing someone who plan to do this (like I promised with attribution stuff) makes sense, so question is entirely valid. Just mentioning what can be done even if no candidate focused on this will be elected.
- BTW, I have on TODO list doing something with aerial imagey as Imagico suggested at https://imagico.de/blog/en/satellite-image-sources-for-openstreetmap-mapping/ (especially points at the end) but no idea when I will reach it Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 06:06, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
