Proposal talk:Indian diets
Additional Tags
Note, I did not use the word soup kitchen when describing sattvic, as it is a facility that gives out subsidized or free food to the needy (impoverished, homeless, etc.). Temple run food halls are for everyone, and do not imply that someone eating at one of these facilities is needy. The one run by Triumala Venkateswara Temple mentioned in the proposal feeds any where from 60,000 to 200,000 people daily and the pilgrims are from various backgrounds, so I do not think the tag soup kitchen applies here. This may require a new tag, food hall, Annadana/Annaprasadam Mandapam/Bhavan/Hall, and annaksetra are tags that I have thought of.
Shojin Ryori in Japan, Sachal Eumsik in Korea, and Zhai Cai in China, is the type of cuisine associated with the proposed Buddhist diet.
I am new, so I did not know if I should propose them within this proposal or a separate one. मार्गदर्शक (talk) 10:20, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
Existing tagging
| diet:jain | ||
| diet:jain_vegetarian | As jain is described as "lacto-vegetarian" the _vegetarian seems to be redundant? | |
| diet:satvik |
I did not see the other proposed at this moment. -- Kees 59 (talk) 11:09, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for finding some related tags.
- Good to know diet:jain already exists. When editing on the iD editor none of the above tags show up as auto fill option when adding a diet. I know I can make and import presets to JOSM, but the options to suggest such presets to iD seems limited to brands. I know making a wiki page of the appropriate tag will also add the definition, will it fix the above issue.
- For tags like diet:jain_vegetarian and diet:satvik that are misspelled or redundant is there a way to change the tag in bulk? मार्गदर्शक (talk) 19:05, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
- There are ways to bulk change things, but I am not familiar with that. See: Automated edits for more info. That said, combined over those two tags it is a total of about 8 OSM objects, hardly worth the trouble to set up a bulk edit.
- It is however maybe a good idea to contact the editors of those objects. This nameless one for instance, had deliberately added both the diet:jain and the diet jain_vegetarian by the same editor in the same changeset. -- Kees 59 (talk) 09:56, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
