Commonly indoor?

One issue I see is that such machines are often indoor, and pretty easy to move, which makes it harder to specifically identify where they are. Are these tags intended for individual points, or as additional tags on the whole arcade, or some other way? JesseFW (talk) 14:07, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

Indeed machines are easy to move around, but in my experience they're usually installed at fixed positions. I intended them to be individual points, adding the tags to the arcade itself sounds complicated. Unnerving duck (talk) 14:26, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
The question is it's not easy to add them accurately indoors. On the other hand, there's demand to add this to the lesiure=amusement_arcade , both to be a low level-of-detail for initial work, and for generalization.
On top of my forum reply, arcade_game=* could be adopted for both purposes. leisure=amusement_arcade + arcade_game=* to list what games it has. leisure=arcade_machine + arcade_game=* for each machine. https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/rfc-feature-proposal-key-amusement-arcade/118076/2
Furthermore, what about the number of machines? Must you create 1 point for every machine? So leisure=arcade_game + arcade_game=* can have count=* for the number of machines, and capacity=* for the maximal number of players in each machine.

Reuse other attributes

Many games correspond to a sport=* . Eg there are even 11 air_hockey in sport=* already. https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/search?q=sport=air_hockey
For better organization, suggest eg arcade_game=sport + sport=* / arcade_game:sport=* (to avoid adding different context of sport=* for other ones )

Different genres for one setup

Resolved: ——Kovposch (talk) 13:29, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

To elaborate, VR isn't a certain game or genre, but a category of the game system. Therefore eg leisure=arcade_machine + arcade_machine=virtual_reality + arcade_game=* can be used to show what can be played in each VR game corner, whether arcade_game=shooting , arcade_game=driving , or arcade_game=flying , etc, and having multiple of them is also possible. https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/rfc-feature-proposal-key-amusement-arcade/118076/2
However to complicate things, we can distinguish VR headset + controller only (are those even "arcade machine" ?), and actual immersive simulator-style VR machines. In the latter, you wear an VR headset and sit on the machine to play.

So maybe this should be solved by using arcade_machine=virtual_reality for VR headset + controller only. Then eg leisure=arcade_machine + virtual_reality=yes could be used for more sophisticated integrated VR experiences.

Adding new game types

I am using a machine translation. I'm Japanese, and until a few years ago, going to game centers was a daily occurrence. I think there are a few things that should be added regarding game types.

1. What should the tag be for games that use medals?

arcade_game=medal_game or arcade_game=medal Which of these would be preferable?

A more detailed classification is possible, but I think that if there is a general term for games that require you to buy medals to play (Actually, you borrow medals from the store), it will reduce the burden on mappers.

2. Trading card arcade game(Kids' card games) In Japan, there is a classification called trading card arcade game. This is similar to video games, but there are differences as follows.

- The number of cards you receive will be proportional to the amount you put in (Some titles give out gem-shaped tokens instead of cards). The cards can be used in the game. For example they can be clothes that you can put on your avatar, or Pokemon to use in battle.

- The machine is not owned by the store, it is rented. When production of the dedicated cards for each title is discontinued, the machine will be returned regardless of the store's wishes.

- It is assumed that children will mainly play this game. The same model is often installed in toy stores.

- Unlike classic "video games", many trading card arcade game have been available since the 2000s.

Examples of trading card arcade game include Mushiking, Pokemon Toretta, and Pretty Rhythm.

Therefore, I would like to add another classification arcade_game=trading_card_arcade_game, arcade_game=trading_card or arcade_game=TCAG.

For backgrounds, this was asked in Japan's Discord. Let me explain more, and give my own suggestions.
  1.  Medal game : As described there, there are coin pushers, and gambling in the form of casino games, or betting on races (usually horses).
  2. https://www.giantbomb.com/trading-card-arcade-game/3015-11381/  : There are multiple games types. Not only the traditional battles, but also soccer (World Club Champion Football, actually the first TCAG), music / rhythm (Ongeki), and those aimed at girls with dressing / fashion elements (AiPri, in the line of Pretty Rhythm).
  3. Crane games was asked in the category of "prize games". There are pusher games pushing prizes directly, not coins (which would be "medal games"). As examples of others,  プライズゲーム#分類 named Conveni-catcher (horizontal arm to pull the prizes on rings out), and Hexa (a swinging arm to hit prizes rotating on a turntable).
To handle these combinations, and to reduce the apparent repetitiveness (viz the leisure=amusement_arcade + amusement_arcade=claw + arcade_game=claw example) , they could be differentiated on amusement_arcade=* or arcade_machine=* somehow. But it does depend on how it should be organized as a whole.
However, I don't know how to handle any overlap with leisure=adult_gaming_centre

Different vehicles

As I commented, I thought I could go through it more closely. But we can remember a proposal doesn't need to specify everything. It can simply be a skeleton system for more solutions to grow from as they emerge.
arcade_game=driving vs arcade_game=motorcycle : Does it need to be distinguished at this level? Both are "driving" games. The latter could be arcade_machine=motorcar vs arcade_machine=motorcycle , or a variation of driving=motorcar vs driving=motorcycle somehow. I personally prefer to follow motorcar=* , than shop=car and shop=truck .
