Why not fixme?

I am not sure why landcover=clearing is described as better than other *=clearing tags. If someone wants to leave fixme, the fixme key or OSM note is the best solution. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 13:17, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

Thanks!

Documenting popular misused tags is quite good idea Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 13:19, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

Surface=ground

I came across this when looking for a tag for a clearing in a forest. The options in the abandoned proposal did not see apt, so I opted for "area=yes + surface=ground". This option did not force a presumption that the clearing was 'natural' nor that it was an intentional (landuse) clearing. The area in question → https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/1031050395 . Unfortunately, this does not render as a "hole" in the forest, but the overall guidance is "do not code for the renderer". --Courtland.yockey (talk) 02:37, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

There's man_made=clearcut, and man_made=cutline. Your edit has problem with overlapping multipolygon, and touching rings; or not yet cached. --- Kovposch (talk) 03:32, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
@Courtland.yockey: See https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/1031050382 - there are several overlapping forests mapped there. There should be one forest with multiple inners, not multiple forests each with different inner and sharing the same outer way. @Mateusz Konieczny: I was using ID when mapping here. It had the oddness of forcing a new outer description every time I put a new inner in place. I'm thinking that multipolygons are not handled properly in ID based on this and will go back and review using JOSM. Does this sound like a known deficit of ID?? --Courtland.yockey (talk) 23:18, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
(meanwhile, back at the bat cave...) When I opened in JOSM - phew what a mess. I've cleaned this one up and will go after other messes I've created in the vicinity. Thanks. --Courtland.yockey (talk) 23:32, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
figured out that there was a problem with how I was creating multipolygons in ID -- not broken in ID, just quite different from JOSM. --Courtland.yockey (talk) 02:15, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
