How "ice cream parlor" and "ice cream shop" can be distinguished? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:05, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Shop sells for takeaway only, but cafe for consumption at the premises. Something B (talk) 11:11, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
What about shop setting up loungers, at least during summer/spring/autumn? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 12:42, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Top level

Personally, I am against tagging takeaway/outdoor seating in top level tag. I would tag also parlours with shop=ice_cream and proper takeaway=* outdoor_seating=*

(1) tagging something selling primarily and fundamentally ice cream as amenity=cafe seems silly to me

(2) many places have significant outdoor seating during summer and warmer part of spring and autumn and do not have it otherwise

(3) such distinction is confusing and will result in many people tagging it differently

(4) massive amount of places tagged already mismatches it

(5) we can tag it with detailed tags

I agree. Shop is shop. Even with seating. IMHO, more specific keys, such as shop=* is preferred when possible, in contrast with more generic amenity=*. shop=ice_cream also allows rendering this features as generic shop. Due to the nature of amenity=* key, for amenity=ice_cream it isn't possible. Something B (talk) 12:58, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
