Proposed extension of aeroway=aerodrome to cover areas

Opinion

  • As I understand it, this is a proposal to extend the current aeroway=aerodrome from a node type to an area type so that airport boundaries can be mapped. I second that. I looked at using landuse= categories, but none of them fit. MikeCollinson 03:32, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
    • I think I've already used this tag as an area, so I would approve. I'm not sure about the proposed rendering, would it be too similar to aeroway=apron? - Peter James 16:11, 26 July 2007 (BST)
      • I've now noticed a proposal for landuse=railway, and I'm thinking that for airports/aerodromes, maybe landuse=aerodrome could be used. - Peter James 17:43, 26 July 2007 (BST)
  • I also second that aeroway=aerodrome can be an area rather than only a node. --spaetz 10:03, 26 March 2007 (BST)

Can this be merged with Proposed features/Airports? --Hawke 23:45, 11 June 2007 (BST)

  • I don't think it should be merged with the Airports proposal. This can be a separate proposal as it is very easy to implement. I think it will be a nice addition to the maps and I also could use it for the AND import. Osm@floris.nu 13:52, 26 July 2007 (BST)
    • On second hand: There already seems to be a proposal that basically covers this: aeroway=apron . Look at [[1]] to see it in action. rendered as #f0f0f0 on osmarenderer, so perfectly right for this job.
      • aeroway=apron covers parking areas for aircraft, aeroway=aerodrome is proposed for boundaries - Peter James 16:11, 26 July 2007 (BST)
  • not that AND should decide, but they are also indicating the area in which an airport is located (so, no runways, only the fence around it...) Marc 21:01, 31 July 2007 (BST)
