Definition: a tag for labeling the springs' names

RFC start: 2020-12-27

Proposal

Mapping water points, in particular in mountain contexts, could be tricky. Taps shouldn't inherit the name of the spring, so adding spring:name should avoid to put the tag name on such features or limit the use to only existing cases.

Examples

An overpass turbo query to find possible use cases in Italy

{{geocodeArea:Italia}}->.searchArea;

node
  [amenity=drinking_water][name~Fonte]
  (area.searchArea);
out;

Tagging

The new tag doesn't affect existing spring mapping:

natural=spring

+ name=Fonte Coralba

If a water point (may be a pipe or a tap) has spring water (even if you don't know the exact spring position), use:

amenity=drinking_water

+ spring:name=Fonte Coralba

Consider always mapping them as separates elements, even if they are close each other.

Applies to

Any water point tag.
