rueckenwind is a bicycle navigation app for iPhone, currently in public beta via TestFlight. It uses OpenStreetMap data throughout.

Features

  • Routing via BRouter with five profiles (touring, gravel, offroad, road, shortest) and up to three route alternatives
  • Each alternative shows its share of unpaved sections, computed from the OSM surface tag
  • Elevation profile and a climb overview along the route
  • CyclOSM as the default map
  • Turn-by-turn voice guidance, including a warning before steep descents (with the surface if it is not asphalt)
  • Waypoints, draggable handles to adjust the route, round trips by desired amount of climbing
  • GPX import and export
  • Apple Watch companion

Contributing to OSM

Where ways along the route have no surface tag, the app counts them and offers "Add surface data to OSM", which opens MapComplete directly on the affected way so riders can fill in the missing tag. Street-level photos from KartaView can be shown along the route to help judge the surface.
